As a youth, I ran, yet I did not exist in a sense. 19 years passed. Today, I exist in one sense because I must run. Perhaps I run to escape the futility of my existence. Perhaps not. In either case, this blog, or whatever it is, will serve to chronicle my training as a runner, my development as a man, and ultimately my demise as a human, because all things pass, fade, retreat into the horizon--and while we run, as we run, the mirage that is the shimmering, glimmering future continues to assert itself just out of reach. And yet, as this picture up above connotes, it may still be beautiful. And so the question may be what is IT? What is it? What is IT?

11.1-11.7

11.1 3 miles easy

11.2 This was my first real attempt at a track workout in a while and I know I have lost some speed--or at least the ability to recover as fast as I used to when doing really fast speeds. In either case, this was a decent workout

6.5 miles total

2 miles warm up; 2000 meters in 6:17; 400 recovery jog; 800 meters in 2:33; 400 recovery jog; 800 in 2:29; 200 recovery jog; 400 in 70; 200 recovery jog; 400 in 70. 1.75 mile cool down at a very brisk pace.

I think this is an okay workout. Certainly, the 6:17 was very solid, but my legs tired quickly. I look forward to my tempo run later this week. I think what I have lost in faster speed I have gained in endurance at slower speeds (5:30 to 5:40 per mile) We shall see.

11.3 OFF

11.4 4 miles in 32 minutes

11.5 This is a workout I will remember for a while. I have been tapering for a while now to try and regain my legs and yesterday's run of 4 miles felt so relaxed that I was excited for today's tempo run.

9 miles total. 2 mile warm up and then 5 mile tempo in a personal best of 26:24! My first mile was 5:08, then 5:17; 5:21; 5:25; 5:13. I was in command here and not going all out, but it was certainly a hard run. I backed off miles 2 through 4 because mile 1 was too fast. 2 mile cool down.

11.6 OFF

11.7 3.5 miles easy with my son Gustave.

26 miles total
