As a youth, I ran, yet I did not exist in a sense. 19 years passed. Today, I exist in one sense because I must run. Perhaps I run to escape the futility of my existence. Perhaps not. In either case, this blog, or whatever it is, will serve to chronicle my training as a runner, my development as a man, and ultimately my demise as a human, because all things pass, fade, retreat into the horizon--and while we run, as we run, the mirage that is the shimmering, glimmering future continues to assert itself just out of reach. And yet, as this picture up above connotes, it may still be beautiful. And so the question may be what is IT? What is it? What is IT?

8.8-8.14

I finally figured out a new supplement I was taking was causing my breathing problems. I stopped taking it and feel a lot better--very scary stuff!

8.8 4 miles AM to fitness center. .65 miles back after a swim with the boys.

5.3 miles early PM to fitness center. 1.2 miles on way back. 6.5 total.

11.15 total for the day.

8.9 4.5 miles to fitness center. 2.55 miles back. 7.05 total AM.

5.25 miles PM. First 3 miles in 17:19 (Tempo)--run on cross country trails--hills, terrible footing, raining.

12.3 miles total.

8.10 OFF

On Long Island for Grandmother's funeral.

8.11 6 miles easy early AM.

8.12 OFF

8.13 3 mile warm up--Alton 5k--16:16. 2 miles cool down. Decent 5k effort--but I definitely did not go all out at all. 8.1 miles total AM.

10.45 miles PM in 71:27. Solid effort in mountains of Meredith. This will be last hard day before Saunders 10K.

18.55 miles total for the day.

8.14 6 miles easy

54 miles for the week with lots of mountians, hills, a 10k effort 5k. My grandmother also passed away and we were very close so this was a tough week all around. Mileage was not sky high--but add in the mountains and trails--and this was a solid week.
